How to make over your home on a budget

Posted on October 18, 2021 at 1:25 PM

So, you’re moving home and want to give your property a facelift before you sell, but you’re on a budget? Look no further. We have put together some of our favourite ways to make a home look brand new and like a perfect show home without breaking the bank, and sure to make any potential buyers fall in love at first sight.

Get some inspiration!

Starting a project like a home makeover can be daunting, especially when you’re on a tight budget, so why not get some inspiration online so you’re sure where you want to spend your money. Pinterest is the perfect place to put together mood boards, with many of the posts showing you how to put together a gorgeous home for less money. This will help you find a theme that is easy to recreate and is sure to lure in potential buyers.

Declutter

We can’t preach about this one enough. When people look at buying a new home, the last thing they want is for the house they might like to be filled with clutter, as they don’t want to imagine their future home being like this. Start by going through and getting rid of anything that is unused or unloved, so you have a clean slate to start decorating (it also means you have less to take to your new home, yay!). Make sure to have a good deep clean as well, as there is nothing more appealing than a clean space to a potential buyer.

Rearrange your space

While your current set up may be perfect for your way of living, there may be other ways to arrange the room to highlight interesting features and show the potential of the space. Try rearranging your space to focus on points of interest of the room, whether it is a beautiful fireplace that makes the room feel extra cosy or a big and bright bay window that brightens the room. It could also be beneficial to position furniture in a way that makes the room feel bigger, so why not utilise what you already have to elevate a space!

Shop local

Shopping local is a brilliant way of highlighting what your area has to offer to future buyers, whether it is a local antique shop or a boutique candle store. This is also a fantastic way of finding reasonably priced furniture that won’t break the bank! These pieces can then be used in your future home to remind you of your amazing past homes!
